What is HALAL? Halal is a Food Safety Management System that complies with the Law of Sharia (The Muslim Holy Law). Halal particularly means “lawful or permissible” and applies to food and drinks as well as other products of daily life. Halal also applies to pharmaceuticals and numerous other products. The parameters of conformity assessment required by Muslims are similar to those of management systems, that is, Standards, Inspection, Certification and Accreditation. The Standards Halal Quality Control Standard 1001, Halal Products – General Requirements for Halal Food 1002 and the Guideline HAS 23103 set out the requirements for a HALAL Food Management System, which is based on ISO 22000:2005 Standard and on the principles of HACCP.
